1 week old

Happy one week birthday baby girl! I can't believe it's already been a week. The cable guy definitely thought you were at least 3 weeks old. You must look humongous to other people. Lol You don't do much yet, but you already have such a personality. You've already mastered the stink eye, and you LOVE your paci. You went from hating that thing in the hospital to having a complete and utter meltdown if we can't get it in your mouth fast enough. You even hang out with your hand on top of it to ensure that it stays put. Your also a fantastic eater. You finally got this nursing thing down, and every 2 hours on the dot your ready to eat. Moma is still figuring it out, but your a champ. Your also a master burper. Although Daddy seems to be the only one who can get you to burp really well. He's also an expert swaddler, even though you aren't crazy about it. You are constantly moving your hands or fingers at all times, so when he traps your hands your get kinda pissy. You always manage to find a way to break free though. You sleep okish. You tricked us the first 2 nights you were home sleeping from 11 to 7. Then last night happened. You wouldn't fall asleep until 2.30am. The only reason you fell asleep then is b/c we dragged your swing in there and put you in that and you immediately passed out until 8.30. I nursed you and you fell back asleep until 10.45am. Moma and daddy went back to bed as well, we were exhausted. We'll see how tonight goes.
This is how you and daddy spent the morning. Madden NFL 12. Obviously it's your most favorite ever.

That one eye look your always giving. It's like you can't be bothered to open both.

Milk coma. And the ever present paci.
You had a very eventful day today to celebrate. First we went to the hospital to get your birth certificate, but the lady wasn't there. You enjoyed the long walk into the hospital and the long walk to the car, so that's something. Then we attempted to take you to see Santa and that was a disaster. You decided that the ride to see him was the perfect time to not only have a poopy diaper, but to have an explosive poppy diaper. You soaked through your onsie, tights, and sweater dress, and your carseat. We discovered the diaper disaster when you had a meltdown in the car b/c you were hungry. I tried to give you a bottle until we could stop, and you were having none of that. We finally pulled over and we pulled out the nursing cape, and got you situated, but we were both laughing hysterically the entire time.  The ridiculousness of the whole thing was so funny. I'm not exactly a breastfeeding expert yet, so trying to maneuver you and other things under that cape was interesting. Daddy helped a lot, but not until he managed to flash a car next to us. Again, ridiculous. So we finally get you fed, and we're heading to Babies R Us so we can change you, and get the stuff we need, and we drive by where Santa is supposed to be and he's not there. Gone. Packed up and already back at the North Pole. We laughed. I mean really? All that drama, and no Santa. So needless to say, you aren't seeing Santa this year. But I don't think you care, so it's all good. So we went out to eat instead, and you did wonderfully. No screaming or freaking out, and no more diaper disasters. You slept the whole time baby girl, which gave moma and daddy a chance to talk and enjoy ourselves. Our first date with you tagging along was pretty nice :) The we came home and proceeded to torture you by shoving you in stockings, and under the tree, and in different outfits to take some ghetto Christmas pictures for our cards, which are going to be late. Hopefully all this excitement will encourage you to sleep well tonight.

I can't believe it's already been a week. Sometimes it feels like I just got home, and sometimes it feels like you've always been here. Hopefully time will slow down :) We love you Charlie girl! Happy one week birthday!

xoxo, Moma & Daddy

Charlotte Rose Barge

She's here! Finally!

First kisses

Meeting my baby girl

New little family

He's only kind of excited :)

She always looks very concerned. I have a thinky baby
Stats:

Date: Born Tuesday December 13th, 2011
Time: 5:03 pm
Weight: 8 lbs 10 oz
Length: 20 1/4 inches

We went in at 9pm Monday night to be induced and everything started out fine. I got admitted and got my IV started. I was only 1cm dilated when we got there, so the doctor on call got some medicine to ripen my cervix. We started that process, and kept with it until 6am when my doctor got there. I had only dilated to 2 cm so we decided to start pitocin. So pitocin is a bitch! Omg my contractions went from "eh uncomfortable" to "omg I need an epidural NOW" in just an hour and a half. My nurse was fantastic and got anesthesia in there pronto and my epidural was started. Labor was cake after that :) I felt so weird after getting the epidural. It felt like my legs and back were asleep, but it was that in-between feeling when your legs fall asleep. You know, right before it starts to get tingly and hurt, but you can;t really feel anything? That's how it felt. My legs felt like they weighed a million pounds, but I didn't care b/c I couldn't feel anything. I progressed normally throughout the day. Early in the afternoon, around 1ish, Charlie's heart rate started to drop b/c my contractions were just way too strong. So my doctor decided to turn off the pitocin for a little but and just let my body naturally keep contracting. This plan worked until about 4.30 when they decided to re-start my pitocin on the lowest setting, and then things got tricky. Charlie's heart rate dropped into the 70's and wouldn't go back up. No matter how many times I flipped, and turned, and rolled, she just wasn't tolerating the contractions at all. So my doctor and his boss decided that an emergency c-section was needed immediately. I got all the way to 8cm and then ended up in an emergency c-section. I was totally freaking out. I started crying, and everyone around me was moving at a million miles an hour and Joe had already been kicked out to change and wait, so I was totally alone. That was the hardest part. The anesthesiologist was wonderful though. He kept talking to me, he'd let me know what was going on, and just reassure me. I got into the OR and within 5 mins of getting in there, she was born. It was so fast! I only got to see Joe for like 5 mins, b/c after they showed her to me, they wheeled her out to the nursery and he went with her. The putting me back together process took a lot longer than it did to take me apart. It took them about 45 mins to sew me back up. I fell asleep through most of it. I was exhausted and cold, and knowing that the baby was ok and that I was ok was my brains permission to just shut off. When they finally wheeled me back into my room, Joe was waiting with Charlie. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little freaked out and scared, but super excited too. Joe was so sweet! He wouldn't let anybody hold her until I had held her. He hadn't held her yet, and our moms kept encouraging him to hold her, but he refused. I cried when my mom told me that. It was so sweet that he did that for me! I have a wonderful husband!

So the birth experience wasn't what I was expecting, but I absolutely am not disappointed in any way. Joe was worried I would be disappointed that I didn't get the birth I had "planned" but I am totally fine with the way things happened! She is healthy, and I'm recovering great, so I am just fine with how everything went down! And she shares a birthday with Taylor Swift :) And yes, that picture of Tay and me from the last post is real. I have more if no one believes me. Lol

Last Pregnancy Post

We're BFF's.
Anyone who knows me, knows about my obsession with Taylor Swift, or T-Swizzle as her friends like to call her ;) (This is relevant to my pregnancy, promise!) So anyways. I missed her Speak Now tour this year b/c well, I'm knocked up and my doctor didn't think a concert at 36 weeks was a good idea. Whatever. Well, tomorrow is my girl's birthday. And guess who is getting induced tomorrow morning? This girl. That's right. It's fate. I love and adore her, so it's only fitting that the thing I love most in the world share a birthday with my musical obsession :) My mom and I think this is beyond hilarious. Especially since it kinda annoys Joe. Not in a "I'm a hateful wife" kind of way, but in a "Oh great, another reason for you to be obsessed" kind of way. He's now laughing about it, and he should. It's hilarious! It could be worse, she could share a birthday with Lindsey Lohan or something. Gag. So onto the pregnancy update! I'm going in tonight at midnight to get all settled and have some things done that I won't share here b/c I'm a prude, and tomorrow morning at 7am they're going to start my induction. I'm super excited and super freaked out all at the same time. Hopefully all goes well, we'll be able to avoid a c-section, and Charlie girl will share a birthday with Tay. If not, I'll be slightly bummed, but only b/c that will mean that we had to wait longer for her arrival :)

41 weeks 2 days Seriously?! Get out baby!

41 weeks 2 days

I can't wait to write a post saying that she's here with pictures of her! Ahh!
