Sleeping Beauty

We've been getting much better about naps. We're slowly getting on a nap schedule that sticks, and she's much happier when she naps. A happy baby makes a happy Moma :)

Holding onto that paci even when she sleeps

Baby Containment Devices

We have a Nosy Rosy for a baby. Sometimes this Nosy Rosy makes it incredibly difficult to get things done b/c it's the end of the world if she can't see you or what your doing. She's loved to sit up since day 1, but ya know, she can't actually do that on her own yet. We've propped her up on her Boppy, but that was no good b/c she'd slide her self down trying to get to whatever it is what she wanted. The swing is good enough for naps, but that lays down so if she's awake, she screams until she's pulled out. The bouncy seat is a no-go as well since she slides down into in a laying position. I finally put up her Johnny Jump Up and she LOVES it. According to the instructions, she's not technically not big enough for it, but I figure it's a non-issue as long as I keep my eye on her. And the Bumbo? Oh Lord! Youdda thought we told her she could have cupcakes for breakfast for the rest of her life. Don't let the pictures fool you, she was happy as a clam. She just got stink face when I pulled out the camera.

Oh haay camera!

She wasn't happy with what was on tv

Watching Keech

Look at my big girl!

Blurry but this is how pleased she was with her seat :)

Basketball was on. She loves her some sports

Another blurry smile. She was lunging for the camera

No Words

This isn't a political post, but it is about the war. And if your against it, or don't support our military, move on, or don't comment.

I'm sure all of you have heard about the drama going on in Afghanistan over some soldiers burning some Korans that were being used by prisoners to send messages back and forth. Now I'm not going to get into whether I think this was right or wrong, but I will say that the retaliation by the Afghan people has been crazy. I'm sure many of you have heard about the two soldiers who were shot and killed b/c of the madness going on. Well this morning we found out that one of the men shot was one of Joe's friends that he was deployed with. My heart breaks for him. They hadn't spoken regularly for a long time. When Joe's unit got back, most of them PCS'd within a few months, including us. I never got to meet the soldier who was killed, but I wish I had. I feel horrible, but I don't even remember his name. I do know that he has a new wife and a new baby. My heart breaks for them as well. Especially the baby who will never know their father. I just hope that he had a chance to meet his son or daughter. We're waiting to hear the details about the funeral. Joe really wants to attend, and hopefully he'll be able to make the trip to Colorado to say goodbye to his friend.

War just sucks. I don't mean this in an anti-war way. I fully support our military and everything they're doing over there. It just sucks that our soldiers have to separated from their families for so long, everything they miss, all the danger they're in. It's just so hard for everybody involved. My dad missed the birth of my brother Drew during the Gulf War, and I can't even begin to imagine how hard that must've been for my mom. I can't even begin to understand what this soldier's wife is going through. To have a new baby, and in the matter of seconds become a single parent. Ugh. If you could all pray for them, or send good vibes their way, or whatever you believe in, I know his family could really use it.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Charlotte has taken up a habit of mine from when I was a kid.

Sucking her thumb.

This doesn't bother me one bit. It shows she has a way to comfort herself. I know people can say "Oh it's gross" or "It'll ruin her teeth" but I say psshhhh to all of that. I started sucking my thumb when my dad deployed for the millionth time when I was 2. It's how I dealt with him being gone. The teeth that could possibly be messed with were baby teeth, I'd loose those anyway. By the time I had all my permanent teeth I had cut the habit, and my mouth is fine. I have perfect teeth, and have never had braces. So whatevs Academy of Pediatrics. I won't follow your guidelines on this one. Miss Charlotte will be fine. I don't think this will be a problem. I'll probably eat my words later, but I'm optimistic for now :)

Rocking the Carolina Panthers blanket. Poppie would be proud.

This was how I used to look. Exact same placement of the fingers.

Sweet baby girl

Baby's first Coke

Last weekend we met Joe's parents in Atlanta for a mini vacay. It was nice to get away and see them, and to also have some babysitters. Let me tell you, a shower without having to rush was bliss. We got to go to the Coca-Cola Factory and take that tour, which was just as much fun the second time for Joe and me as it was being the first for his parents. We missed the Aquarium b/c the line was insane, but I'm confident it won't be the last time we visit Atlanta. Charlotte even got to try a drop of coke. She didn't hate it, but she also wasn't smacking her lips for more. We also had the opportunity to eat at The Varsity which is a Georgia Tech. staple, and has been featured on Man Vs. Food. We had such a fun weekend, and we're looking forward to our next trip.
